The Herb Society are delighted to announce their last online event of 2025, at which Guy Waddell will be delivering a talk on 'Learning Herbal Medicine from Christopher Hedley and Non Shaw – Some Key Themes'
It was the stories that Guy heard from herbalist Christopher Hedley in the early 1990s that drew him into herbal medicine and eventually into teaching and research. Guy taught herbal medicine at the University of Westminster, where he was a member of several research groups, and undertook doctoral research combining his interests in narrative and in herbal medicine, arguing that herbalists’ relationships with plants and herbal medicines help to sustain them in their work and allow diverse influences to be brought into practices.
In September 2019, Guy joined Heartwood Education as director of studies. Heartwood provides foundation, short and professional level courses in Western herbal medicine. Guy has authored The Enchantment of Western Herbal Medicine, and edited Plant Medicine, a collection of the teachings of Christopher Hedley and Non Shaw.
He has just finished editing a companion volume to Plant Medicine, which is out this summer, called Very Generous Things, Plants - We Don’t Deserve Them, Really. This book is a collection of the written communications and spoken words of Christopher Hedley. Basically, lots of stories for those who love medicinal plants!
Tickets can also be purchased to watch the recording if you’re unable to join on the day.
